With a wide range of experience across all areas of employment law in the public (and, indeed private) sectors, you can be assured that the Employment Unit will have the answer to any employment issue or problem that you may have whether it be contentious, non-contentious or the training needs of your organisation.
In terms of contentious matters, we provide particular expertise in dismissal, discrimination (including equal pay and forthcoming issues in relation to the implementation of the age discrimination legislation later this year) and TUPE transfers as well as dealing with common areas of employment issues such as holidays, sickness and family-related rights.
The day to day work of the Unit involves advising upon the issues arising out of standard public sector employment conditions such as the Whitley Council and Agenda for Change provisions in the NHS and the green and burgundy books in local government. Support and advice in relation to service contracting in/out and second generation contracting in the context of TUPE and COSOP are examples of the non-contentious service provided and the Unit undertakes reviews of employment contracts, policies and procedures to try to ensure that its clients remain abreast of employment law developments.
The Unit runs a telephone helpline for its major public sector clients and also offers bespoke training programmes and seminars which, in the current year, will focus on the new age discrimination legislation as well as the recently introduced updated TUPE regulations which are to come into effect in April.
Our reputation, personnel, proven track record and professional but friendly approach establish the Unit as one of the leading players in the employment field not only in the north but throughout the country. For example, we are members of the panel of employment advisors operated by the Government's procurement office, the OGC.
Please contact any of the Unit members for further information.
