Paul is a graduate of Newcastle University. He joined the firm in 1989 and was made a Partner in 1995.
Paul specialises in insurance law and personal injury work on behalf of insurers, self-insured's and loss adjusters. One of Paul's special interests is stress at work cases, having represented the Defendants in the first "stress at work" case of Walker -v- Northumberland County Council. Other special interests are: fatal accidents, psychiatric injuries, fibromyalgia / chronic fatigue syndrome, catastrophic injuries.
Paul is also a member of FOIL and is the North East regional representative and
member of the ADR special interest group. He regularly lectures on civil
litigation and the use of mediation. Part of his mediation training was
carried out in San Francisco. He has conducted over 45 mediations, both
as mediator and party, many in the personal injury field. As one of the
country's most frequent user of mediation in personal injury cases, Paul
acted for the Defendant in one of the cases which led to the landmark
judgement of the Court of Appeal in May 2004 in Halsey v Milton Keynes
NHS Trust and Steel v Joy.
Last but not least, Paul is an avid sports fan, with a strange passion for Birmingham City F.C.
